Environmental Responsibility & Sustainable Travel Policy

Last Updated: 07/22/2025

At Life’s Abri’s, we believe that exploring the world and protecting it should go hand in hand. We are committed to promoting sustainable, ethical, and environmentally conscious travel practices that minimize harm, support local economies, and protect the natural and cultural heritage of the destinations we visit. This policy outlines the efforts we take, and the choices we encourage travelers to make, in support of a more sustainable travel future.

1. Our Commitment to Sustainability

While we are not a carbon-neutral company or a conservation organization, Life’s Abri’s is committed to:

  • Prioritizing local, family-owned, or eco-conscious partners whenever possible

  • Offering slow-travel itineraries that reduce unnecessary transport emissions

  • Educating travelers on low-impact practices and cultural preservation

  • Encouraging participation in ethical tourism (e.g. conservation-based, volunteer travel, etc.)

  • Limiting over-tourism by promoting off-peak or lesser-known destinations

We continue to evaluate our practices and partnerships through a sustainability lens.

2. Traveler’s Role in Environmental Stewardship

Travelers are encouraged to adopt eco-conscious behaviors before, during, and after their trip. This includes:

  • Traveling with a reusable water bottle

  • Minimizing single-use plastics

  • Avoiding unnecessary flight segments (consider train travel or extended stays)

  • Participating in leave-no-trace principles in natural environments

  • Reducing excessive waste in hotels (e.g. towel or linen changes)

  • Respecting wildlife viewing guidelines (no feeding, touching, or chasing)

  • Using reef-safe sunscreen when swimming in marine environments

The power of sustainability lies in individual choices made consistently.

3. Ethical Partner Selection

We vet many of our vendors and experiences based on:

  • Use of sustainable materials or practices (e.g. plastic-free kitchens)

  • Local hiring and fair labor practices

  • Cultural preservation efforts (e.g. artisanship, heritage site protection)

  • Community investment or revenue-sharing models

That said, not every vendor will be perfect. Infrastructure, accessibility, and availability vary widely by country. We do our best to balance eco-ethics with quality, safety, and trip goals.

4. Optional Offsets & Credits

At this time, Life’s Abri’s does not include carbon offsets in its packages, but we recommend travelers consider:

  • Donating to credible environmental organizations (e.g., Cool Effect, Carbon Fund)

  • Supporting reforestation or regenerative agriculture programs

  • Booking economy class or using fewer inter-country flights

  • Extending the duration of a trip rather than making multiple short trips

Sustainable travel is not about guilt—it’s about thoughtful trade-offs.

5. Water, Energy & Waste Abroad

In many destinations, travelers may encounter regions where:

  • Potable water is scarce

  • Power usage is limited

  • Waste disposal systems are overburdened or underdeveloped

To reduce your footprint:

  • Take shorter showers

  • Turn off lights and A/C when leaving your room

  • Use local water filters or refill stations when possible

  • Properly sort or minimize waste where recycling exists

Remember: being a good guest includes being a good steward.

6. Avoiding Exploitative Experiences

We do not offer or support:

  • Elephant riding, tiger petting, or exploitative wildlife tourism

  • Orphanage tourism or staged “slum visits”

  • Cultural shows that dehumanize or distort ethnic groups

  • Vendors known for unethical labor, cultural theft, or environmental destruction

When in doubt, ask: “Is this experience benefiting the community—or just me?”

7. Sustainable Packing Tips

To travel more consciously:

  • Pack light (less fuel used per passenger)

  • Choose multi-use items and ethical clothing brands when possible

  • Avoid travel-sized disposables (opt for refillables or bulk containers)

  • Carry your own reusable shopping bag

Your luggage is your footprint. Pack with intention.

8. Group Travel & Shared Impact

On group trips, we coordinate:

  • Shared transportation to minimize emissions

  • Group meals to reduce food waste

  • Consolidated bookings to reduce vendor strain

We may offer group challenges, digital packing lists, or sustainability tips throughout the experience. Participating is voluntary—but appreciated.

9. Long-Term Vision

Sustainable travel isn’t a trend—it’s a transformation. We’re constantly reviewing how our operations and partnerships can evolve to better align with our values. We welcome suggestions and encourage feedback that helps us become a more thoughtful global citizen as a brand.

10. Final Note

We believe you can love the world and leave it better. Our journeys are meant to be beautiful—but also responsible, regenerative, and connected to something greater than ourselves.
